Our Principal - Miss Nikki Shurvinton AIDTA & AISTD
I started Ballet at the age of 6 and after taking my First Exam and receiving Honours and the School Cup I fell in love with Dance! I started Assisting my Teacher at 15yrs and this combined my love of Children and Dance and I realised this was the Career for Me!
I started Performing in Shows at the Age of 11 and Aged 15 I joined a Dance Troup who took on Semi Professional Work.
After I had finished school I Auditioned for Pattison College in Coventry to undertake a 3yr Musical Theatre course and my Teaching Qualifications.
I left in 1997 with 5 Associates and Many other Dance Exams under my belt, as well as gaining experience as a Professional Performer.
I started running The Nikki Jay Academy Of Dance over 26yrs ago and have had lots of Experience Teaching for many other schools in the area as well as being the resident Choreographer for Leamington & Warwick Musical Society for 9yrs and a tumble Tot leader where I also Choreographed one of their Best Selling video's!
We hold Exam Sessions and Shows on alternate years so we are always working towards a Goal, there are also 9 different Awards up for grabs each Term to Encourage the children to work hard. We also offer Award Postcards at every class to praise pupils and keep Parents informed of their child's continued improvements! We offer some of our Senior Students the chance to Assist Teachers in Classes & We have now have one of our Parents and Adult Pupils Assisting in little ones classes with Miss Nikki!
Over the last 27yrs I have watched many pupils grow up and leave for Uni and I'm pleased to say all of them still keep in touch & I am now starting to teach their children! It makes me feel
old but what more of an accolade could a dance teacher wish for?
We have also had Pupils continue their training Professionally! Katy gained a place at Laban in London and studied there for a year, Emily has just Graduated from The Northern School of Contemporary
Dance in Leeds and we currently have Beattie training full time at Elmhurst Ballet school in Birmingham! We are immensely Proud of them all!
Having said that, at The Nikki Jay Academy Of Dance the emphasis is on Fun, I am very aware that for most children Dance is a Hobby but at the same time we strive for the pupils to Acheive and do their best whilst learning the disipline of the Dance world and many life lessons along the way.
I love teaching and hope that I inspire the children and pass on my love of Dance the way my teachers inspired me!
